What alchemy is really fixated on is spiritual development – with the top goal being a state of awareness, completion and harmony.

They both approach spiritual development through a psychic involvement with the matter. But while European alchemy became entrapped in an obsession with metals and purified elements, shamanism fixated its attention within the living energies of plants, animals and spirits.

It has a similar narrative the human spirit being broken, remade, tested and reborn again.

Aurum Nostrum Non Est Aurum Vulgi.

Perhaps the foremost fascinating aspect of spiritual alchemy is its objective: to free you from your core wounds, core beliefs, soul loss and other self-destructive personality structures so as for you to measure freely and unobstructed.

Existing in “pure being,” or soulful awareness is that the ultimate state of transformation – the gold – of spiritual alchemy. It attempts to restructure your personality and therefore the various levels of attachment, avoidance and identification you possess.

The 7 Stages of Spiritual Alchemy

Dissolve and coagulate.

Solve et coagula.

The Latin expression “solve et coagula” comes from “solve,” aiming to break down and separate. While “coagula” describes the method of bringing elements back together (coagulating) into a replacement , higher form.

Interestingly, “solve et coagula“ is a wonderful psychological metaphor: by pursuing Gold. We “break down” limiting parts within us that are within the way of our transformation (Philosopher’s Stone) into a free and whole being (coagulation).

There are not any universal stages of alchemy because of the sheer number of various schools out there, these are some of the foremost widely accept stages:

Calcination

In alchemy, this is often depicte because of the burn of the prima materia into ash.

This stage refers to the breaking of our attachments to the worldly. Along the journey of life, it’s easy to urge lured into the rat race.

We seek wealth, but also status, fame, prestige, things to feed our ego and our own perceptions of our identity. this stuff is often beneficial, but the larger of a figure it plays in our lives, the more we chase it, and therefore the more it can consume us.

The separate the worldly can come to us in something as sudden as a traumatic event sort of a loss. Or it can come gradually over time, through the suffering we experience in life, or maybe once we get all the items that we could ever want, but without feeling a real sense of fulfilment. This stage asks us to humble ourselves – fire sparks the journey into the self.

Dissolution

Once we’ve weakened all of our personality characteristics that were within the way, we are left with the method of dissolution which is that the beginning of feel less identification with our false sense of self.

Once we are free from our pride or self-doubt. We will take one step back and truly observe our positive and negative qualities.

Suddenly, our inability to require responsibility for our many faults, avoidance of traumatizing memories. The other inner tensions rise to the surface, causing us to become conscious of how our behaviour could be affecting others. This is often the start of spiritual maturity.

Sometimes this stage of transformation is causing accidentally by illnesses and misfortunes in our lives that cause us to actually concentrate on what we’re doing, shocking us out of our avoidance patterns.

SEPARATION

Separation is the stage where we make our thoughts and emotions more defined by isolating them from other thoughts and emotions. An easy example is our plan to free our heart from resentment while trying to forgive someone.

The process of separation involves truly becoming conscious of our authentic feelings for an individual, or for ourselves. During this stage, we honestly experience our anger, frustration or disappointment towards another or ourselves, instead of reverting back to the old habit of dutifully trying to “forgive” or “forget” because it’s the “right” or comfortable thing to try to to.

Separation is closely entwined with shadow. We must allow all feelings and thoughts within us to surface side by side. This helps us to isolate particular elements of our character so as to honestly see and assess them.

CONJUNCTION

Here, the alchemist combines the elements deemed worthy in separation into a replacement substance.

It is at this moment where we re-integrate. Unconscious and conscious close. At this stage, though we are conscious of the social structures that are at play within the world. We aren’t influenced by them, we are free.

Here, the alchemist is asleep with both the perceived “darker” aspects of the self. Therefore the mask that they have to wear when interacting with the planet.

Fermentation

Fermentation is the beginning of our process of rebirth. This stage is often compare to the death of a grape, which then becomes the birth of wine. While the primary four stages involved working with aspects of our old personality. Within the stage of Fermentation, we start to experience moments of our more “refined” self.

Fermentation occurs in two parts: Putrefaction and Spiritization. Putrefaction is that the decomposition of our former selves; the method of inner death by which the old elements of our conscious and unconscious minds are allowed to rot and decompose.

On the opposite hand, Spiritization is that the stage by which we start to seem at the planet during a new light. Proper guidance and enough inner work, Spiritization involves letting go of all the aspects of ourselves and our lives. That don’t serve or contribute to our involution. This is often once we taste moments of great inner peace and stillness.

Distillation

To prepare for the ultimate stage, we’d like to purify the spirit to form sure that it’s free from any destructive sorts of ego.

Here we are planting the seed for the unborn, transpersonal self. One that’s free from the distinctions of the collective and therefore the individual. To assist it to grow, one has got to nourish it. Which may be through with various sorts of contemplation, spiritual ritual or meditation.

Coagulation

Similar to the blood’s ability to make clots and stop bleeding. Coagulation is that the moment when we’ve “broken open the top,”. In other words, we’ve become free from the mind and have allowed our Soul, to attach with the Spirit.

The meeting point between two opposites like the spiritual self and raw matter. Heaven and hell, and life and death, is that the point where existence becomes self-aware. This is often the instant when our lives are without duality; when matter becomes spirit, or the spirit is manifested in material form.

Conclusion

In the stage of Coagulation, the physical universe isn’t separate from the mind or spiritual reality; it’s a mirrored image of it.

Alchemy’s greatest achievement is to make an interrelationship between mind and matter, between self and world.
